Saint Martin's Institute of Higher Education is a private tertiary education institution, licensed by the National Commission for Further and Higher Education of Malta (License No: 196). The Institute was founded in 1985 offering ordinary level computer science, until the year 2000. This was when the Institute began offering an alternative to Maltese students: the opportunity to read for degrees through the University of London International Programmes. Starting out by offering courses in the Computing sector, our Department of Computing & Information Systems soon developed. Through University of London International Programmes, SMI was able to provide tuition for a BSc (Hons) Computing and Information Systems degree, and later on, added the cutting edge BSc (Hons) Creative Computing course to its bill. The department has just under 300 students reading for their qualifications, either as full time or evening students. The Institute more recently developed another department, the Department of Business, Entrepreneurship and Finance. The total number of students tops 400 students, with 20% being foreigners reading for their degrees with us. Today, Saint Martin’s Institute of Higher Education is an Affiliate Centre for the University of London International Programmes. This is the highest level of recognition and means that in the considered view of the University of London it demonstrates a sustained commitment to developing excellence in respect of teaching, support to students and administrative processes. The Institute has an excellent track record, with over 40% of its graduates achieving a first class honours, conferred by the University of London. Upon successful completion of their programme, the student becomes a graduate or alumni of the University of London International Programmes.
