The pain clinic was established in 2015 by a family doctor, an anaesthetist and a physiotherapist. These three medical professionals got together with an idea to create something unique and novel for the Maltese Islands. So far, pain relief is only offered at the pain clinic at Mater Dei Hospital where there is a long waiting list and patients are not always satisfied with the service they are given. The main aim of creating a painclinic in the private sector was to provide a holistic approach to pain relief, where the patient is assessed properly by 1 or 2 professionals and then given a program for the management of his or her condition by a multidisciplinary team.
