The FIDEM Charity Foundation is a non-profit organisation providing support and empowerment opportunities to vulnerable people through access to education, arts and culture, and wellbeing guidance. Since its inception in 2018, FIDEM has supported vulnerable people with access to educational and creative workshops, vocational and wellbeing assistance. Our goal is to empower our participants with the opportunities they need to increase their confidence and to achieve positive and lasting change in their lives. Our guiding principles are empathy and compassion. FIDEM rapidly began operating a "Hear to Help" Helpline for wellbeing and legal aid concerns in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, in line with our ethos of supporting vulnerable people. We soon learned one of the most frequent wellbeing concerns of our callers was loneliness, particularly amongst older people. We therefore decided to set up a new project called We Connect in response to this - www.weconnect.org.mt We Connect is as an innovative, multi-dimensional online community offering free, unlimited access to a wide range of services, tools and opportunities designed to help with uplifting emotional and mental wellbeing and combatting loneliness. We want to ensure that our members, particularly older people, have a safe, positive space where they can prioritise their emotional and mental wellbeing and find happiness in every day. Our ultimate goal is for We Connect to significantly help to turn the tide on the ongoing widespread issue of loneliness in our society.
